Mailbox for iOS
Mailbox was a true sensation in 2013. Here are a few highlights:
- Mailbox provided a blazing fast email app which was a stark contrast to the slow clunky apps of the time
- Mailbox created and popularized some of the user interactions we take for granted today. Like swipe gestures to mark emails as read, archive them, or delete.
- Mailbox introduced quick actions and a new snooze feature that hid an email temporarily and notified you later.
- Inbox Zero was the goal of the creators and the die hard fans ended up actually achieving this!
- All these features had users raving about the app on the internet. This plus their viral intro video made the app built up a pre-launch waitlist of 380,000 users and eventually close to a Million people waiting later on.
Mailbox was acquired by Dropbox just a month after the apps launch.
Mailbox was shut down by Dropbox by 2016. To this day in 2023, Mailbox has an avid fan following, with people routinely talking about it with fond memories and some even trying to recreate it because the gaping hole Mailbox left after it shut down was never filled.
